What exactly does an economist do?

An economist translates a question into a measurable problem, then typically answers it using data and statistical methods (e.g., econometrics, causal inference, forecasting, causal AI, machine learning). The result takes the form of a note, a research report, an assessment, an indicator, a model, or a dashboard that can be used to inform decision-making.

What tools do you use for your analyses?

Mainly Python, R, Stata, and SQL for analysis and econometrics; machine learning models such as XGBoost; forecasting methods such as ARIMA and Prophet; Power BI or interactive web pages for dashboards; and AI tools such as Claude Code, Google Antigravity, Codex, Ollama, and Perplexity.

Do you work in French and English?

Yes, I work in both languages. My public projects on GitHub are generally documented in French and/or English, depending on the project.

A must-read book for an economist?

Bellemare, Marc F. (2022), Doing Economics: What You Should Have Learned in Grad School–But Didn't, Cambridge, MA: MIT Press. I especially recommend the chapter "Writing Papers" (an earlier version of the chapter can be found here).

A fun fact about you?

I am a die-hard FC Barcelona fan. If you are a Real Madrid fan, we might have a little problem! 😉
